Lady Liberty

Today the girls and I made a quick, last minute trip up to Northern Jersey to see this beautiful lady! I'm trying my best to check off the last few things we want to do here before we head south. The main goal of this visit was to give D a memory to take with her. We went to the Statue as a family back in the fall of 2005; however, D was only 3 years old and has no remembrance at all. Here are some pics from the last trip - see how little and cold they both were!!!

The sun was in the way.

D was more interested in kicking the leaves than admiring the Statue!

So of course, after that experience, I just needed to take them back. I love everything about this trip, especially to see Ellis Island and the abundance of history that emerges from those now empty buildings. And just as impressive is the old terminal of the Central Railroad of New Jersey which is also the dock for the ferry.

I can only imagine what this place looked like in it's heyday in the early 1900's. It was from this ferry/train station that many immigrants arriving at Ellis Island spread out across the USA.

The concourse, as you can see, is overgrown with vegetation, yet captivating just the same. So now, one more item is checked off my "to-do" list and I can sleep well tonight, um perhaps not, I still have more boxes to pack!

Thank you SO much for taking us to see the Statue and Ellis Island when we visited you a while back. That was a very special day at deeply moving sites.

I'm glad y'all had fun and got one more item checked off. We're working our way through our list, too!
