Blueberries - Delicious, Delectable and Delightful!!!

We are trying to enjoy every little bit of summer that we can and one of our most favorite acitivities in New Jersey has been picking organically grown blueberries! They come into season just as school is finishing - which makes a great start to our vacation. The berry patch that we go to grows HUGE berries and we tend to be super choosey, only picking the berries that are around the diameter of a quarter! The berries look amazing and so it's hard not to sneak a taste here or there. We find that blueberries are the best right off the bush, since they are sweet and warm from the sun! So here are a few pics from our adventure this morning with our friends - the C girls.

A just for a little education - New Jersey is the "birthplace" of the cultivated blueberry. The pine barrens area in south Jersey is a natural habitat for both blueberries and cranberries. Indeed they are of the same genus "Vaccinium". Blueberry cultivation was pioneered by Elizabeth C. White.
