Wait...wait...slow down, please...I can't keep up!

This is how I feel every morning when I wake - feeling behind in every sort of way. Why am I posting about my lack of balance, organization and peace? Because I am feeling very behind in my blogging. Because there has been so much we've packed into the last four or so months that I just didn't have or didn't take the time to blog about and share with you. My conundrum is that I want to share what is happening now - but I feel that I shouldn't share anything new until I catch up with the old. So, hold on to your hats, as I take you on a crazy drive-by our lives since October. Here weeeee gooooo!

In October, Mom and Dad were able to travel down to visit with us. It just so happened that both A and P were free from work/school, so all 6 of ran away to the beautiful beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. It was a wonderfully relaxing trip; enjoying the warmth of Alabama in October, walking the white sands of the beach, visiting the Battleship Alabama, looking for migrating Monarch Butterflies, eating at unique restaurants and playing lots of cards back at the hotel.

Also in October, I had PRK surgery to correct my horrible vision. With that surgery came some resting time for my eyes, so Mom and Dad took over my schooling responsibilities of Darling D. Below was a science presentation that Mom and D researched and performed about Barn Owls. ADORABLE and very informative!!!

We wrapped up October with dressing-up for Halloween. D was a beautiful princess and wanted to be called Terra (after the green dress and Gone with the Wind!). P was a charming frontier girl, with cowboy boots to complete the outfit. We convinced Mom (who dressed up in a poodle skirt) to walk the neighborhood. The girls entertained the neighbors by telling Halloween jokes before asking for candy! They received quite a few belly laughs and lots of candy in the process! November was a blur. December started out with P's school play The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. P played a lovely Grace Bradley!

Mom helped me tremendously by sewing P two "costumes" - this green dress being one of them. We then rolled straight into Nutcracker performances for D. This year she had two roles, a soldier and a Polichinelle (which is a little clown). Here is D (on the left) in her Poli costume with one of her ballet teachers as the Sugar Plum Fairy.

The day following the last Nutcracker performance, we jumped into Babe and hit the road for our big Christmas Vacation! First stop was to visit D's BFF in Illinois. It was wonderful to see the girls just pick up where they left off 1 1/2 years ago. P got her "baby" fill by watching over little M, while us adults had conversation time. It's amazing how this little 3 year old can navigate an iPad.

Early the next morning we stopped to see the Arch in St. Louis. This picture is to prove that even though P is extremely afraid of heights, she did it, she went up to the top!!! We are so proud of her. We traveled through Missouri and into Kansas where we stopped to visit the State Capitol in Topeka! Our family has a goal to visit all 50 state capitol buildings.

We rolled into Colorado Springs on Christmas Eve and proceeded to clean ourselves up to enjoy a delicious dinner and show at the Broadmoor Hotel. I am so pleased that this family photo turned out nicely. Just for the record, yes, P is taller than me, but she is also wearing heals in this picture! On Christmas day we enjoyed hiking outside and visiting the Garden of the Gods. I love this trick photography photo that A took of P. She really does look as if she is leaning on the face of the outcrop.

The next leg of our journey was to visit our dear friends the C family and spend several days with them. Once again, the 4 girls picked up as best friends can always do and didn't stop giggling for 5 days. This is the view of Pike's Peak from the porch of our friends. What a great view!!! Every morning I just sat and watched the sun shine on those beautiful mountains - soaking up as much as I could. We were able to travel up to Denver to see the State Capitol building too!

The weather was mild and in the 50's so we traveled up into the Rockies, geocaching and visiting the Florissant Fossil Beds. My man is at home in the mountains - look at that smile!! Once again I love the trick photography he took of D "sitting" on a huge fossilized Redwood stump.

We wrapped up our trip by traveling to the State Capitol Buildings in Sante Fe, New Mexico (which was closed for New Years) and Oklahoma City. So in conclusion:
6 full days of driving, 6 days of relaxing, 11 states crossed, 2 awesome families visited, one 5 star hotel, highest altitude reached - 10,400 feet, 3 State Capitol buildings toured, a bunch of geocaches logged AND one incident of running out of gas crossing the Mississippi River - what an adventure!!
