Under Expansion

D, an avid thumb sucker until the age of 5, has started visiting the orthodontist. Developing a cross-bite from her thumb sucking, we are now starting the process of expanding her top palate in hopes that the bottom jaw will then seat correctly and the cross-bite be eliminated.

Each night we have to turn a screw in her mouth to expand the palate. Poor thing, the turning causes her to have pain on the bridge of her nose and across her cheeks!

Funny how we just got done turning P's screw on her foot and now we are onto turning a screw in D's mouth. We are doing this all out of love and what is best for our girls. But the girls are learning that love hurts sometimes!!!

All this must tug at your heartstrings. Hope this procedure goes quickly for both D and you.

I remember when we did this with Ethan. I was sick to my stomach the first few days we had to turn the screw. I think he was, too! Hang in there, D!
