A big thank you to all those praying for P's surgery to go well today! God answered! The surgery went well, and so far recovery is as expected.
We started out at 7:30 this morning heading up to the Children's Hospital of Birmingham for a 9:00 appointment. The rain and traffic did not hinder us from arriving on time! We checked in, and within 45 minutes, we were in our prep room where the Anesthetist, Nurse, and Doc G all came by for a visit. It was encouraging that everyone asked P what she was having done, and to which foot. She got it right every time!
Here's Doc G going over the procedure one more time to calm R's fears...
He even marked his initials on the "right" foot...
After 1 1/2 hours in surgery, Doc G came out to tell us that everything went smoothly and that P was in recovery for the next hour or so. We got the call about 45 minutes later saying that they were ready to move her to her room. We met up with her in the hallway, being wheeled along, semi-lucidly. She had a very dry throat from the oxygen and trach tube, but felt good. The morphine really had her itching every inch that she could reach, so the nurse gave her some Benadryl which knocked her out for a good 2 hour nap. She's been in and out of sleep and feeling a little nauseous from the pain meds they've been giving her orally to replace the morphine, and now counteracting that with anti-nausea meds.
But, when she's awake, she's feeling good, especially when talking to old friend L from Florida about trombone's and skating!
