Winter Classic Skating Competition

On March 14th & 15th, the girls took part in their first skating competition. The competition was held at the local rink where they skate - so the territory was familiar. During the weeks preceeding, both girls worked extra hard on their performances. All we asked of them was to try their hardest and to have fun.

P was up first, competing on Saturday afternoon. She was in a group of 9 girls all on the same skating level; however, the ages of the girls varied quite a bit. P seemed very collected and we think she performed magnificently.

As we were waiting for P to take the ice - we had a most WONDERFUL surprise! P's 4th grade teacher, Miss M, showed up at the rink!!!! Unknown to all of us, P and Miss M had been planning this visit to the competition for 2 weeks. Miss M is the greatest and a splendid mentor and friend to P - and the rest of our family.

P's coach choose the music and I just think it fits her perfectly. P placed 4th out of 9 - and we are pleased with how it turned out. She was bumming a little because she had it in her head that she might just win 1st. I think she is even more dedicated now to perfecting her skills for the next competition - which is the first weekend in April.

D took to the ice on Sunday morning. She was extremely nervous - which is completely opposite from her Christmas performance when she was cool as a cucumber. We are so proud of her being able to take the ice and perform as well as she did, knowing how scared she was. She even smiled all the way through.

D was very pleased with herself - and made the comment that she "felt like a princess" while performing. She placed 3rd out of 3, but what is more important is that she worked through her fears!
